After learning all this, you’ll be well-equipped to make an informed decision. So, let’s dive in and demystify dental fillings in Millburn, NJ.
Cavities, also known as tooth decay, are a common dental issue that occurs when bacteria in your mouth produce acids that eat away at your teeth. If left untreated, cavities can lead to severe toothache, infection, and even tooth loss. That’s why it’s crucial to address them early.
Dental fillings are a common treatment for cavities that work by filling the hole in your tooth, stopping the decay from progressing further. Choosing the right dental filling can help restore your tooth’s function and appearance. It can also prevent further complications and improve your overall oral health.
You’ll find various dental filling options in Millburn, NJ. Each type has its advantages and drawbacks.
Each type of filling has its place, depending on the location and extent of the cavity, your budget, and your personal preferences.
Several factors come into play when choosing a dental filling, and one of the most important is the location of the cavity.
Durability is key for cavities in the back teeth. Amalgam or gold fillings are often the best choices because they can withstand chewing pressure and last for many years.
Aesthetics are more important when it comes to cavities in the front teeth. Composite or ceramic fillings, which your dentist can match to the color of your teeth, are usually the preferred choice.
Cost is another factor to consider. Gold fillings are the most expensive, while amalgam fillings are usually the most affordable.
Your personal health considerations also matter. If you have allergies to certain metals, you’ll want to go with other options.
Finally, your dentist’s recommendation is crucial. They can guide you toward the best choice based on your situation.
Getting a dental filling in Millburn, NJ starts with a thorough oral examination. Your dentist will check for signs of cavities, such as toothache or visible holes.
If your dentist detects a cavity, they will likely recommend an X-ray to help determine the extent of the decay. This is critical to know whether a cavity is all you need, or if a more serious procedure, such as a root canal, is necessary.
Before the procedure begins, local anesthesia is usually administered to ensure a pain-free experience. The dentist then prepares the tooth for the filling by removing the decayed part of the tooth.
The dentist cleans the tooth once the decay is removed to ensure no bacteria or debris is left behind. The dentist then places filling material into the cavity and shapes it to match the contour of the tooth.
After the dentist places the filling, they harden it using a special light.
Finally, the dentist checks your bite and makes any necessary adjustments. This ensures comfort and functionality.
After getting a dental filling, proper care is crucial to ensure its longevity.
Good oral hygiene is key, as regular brushing and flossing can prevent further decay. Avoiding hard or sticky foods can also help, as these can dislodge or damage the filling.
Regular dental checkups are another critical component, as these allow your dentist to monitor the condition of the filling.
If you experience sensitivity or discomfort, contact your dentist, as this could indicate a problem with the filling. Early treatment of a failed filling is instrumental in a successful retreatment.
Finding the right dentist to handle dental fillings near you is crucial, as it ensures you get the best care for your teeth.
To find a great dentist near you, ask for recommendations from friends, family, or coworkers. They can provide valuable insight into the dentists they visit.
Online reviews can also be helpful, as they glimpse other patients’ experiences with the dentist and staff. They also give you a great high-level overview via star ratings.
Consider the dentist’s qualifications and experience. You want a board-certified dentist with many years of successfully treating cavities in Millburn, NJ. You can usually find this information on the dental office’s website.

I had a filling done with Dr Krosser a couple weeks ago and by far in my adult life was the BEST experience I had. No pain at all and Dr Krosser is very gentle when working on you and he’s got such a great personality and great people skills. Also I would say all his staff from the receptionist to his dental hygienist have exceptional people skills and work ethic. I would definitely recommend this facility.
Dr Krosser and all his staff are excellent! I have now transferred my entire family to be under his care. He is great with both adults and children. The office is clean and spacious. Laura and Beth are outstanding and focus on making every experience great. The laser procedure for fillings was an alternative to drilling and painful anasthetic injections. Highly, highly recommend!
First time experiencing the laser for a resin filling. Literally 2 seconds of discomfort at the nerve, Dr. Krosser recognized it and lowered the setting. No Novocaine and absolutely the best experience I've had at the dentist and I usually detest going. Katherine has a steady hand and provides a thorough cleaning with no discomfort at all.
I had an appointment with Dr Krosser for a filling and I was so nervous about getting a needle but he told me he could do my filling with a laser . I was still apprehensive but I was so pleasantly surprised that I didn’t feel anything . He is great !! He is up to date with all the latest gadgets used in dentistry I highly recommend this office .
I recently went through my first checkup in this office since moving to the area after growing up and living in South Jersey all my life. Before moving, I've only ever gone to one dentist, so, naturally, you could say I was not very keen on changing to a completely new dentist that I knew nothing about and that also knew nothing about me. However, those worries were quickly put to rest by the friendly, attentive staff upon my arrival. The first checkup was very thorough, but they did discover I had a minor cavity. One may automatically assume "hmm, I'm a first timer and they already claim they found a cavity...something must be up", but that thought never crossed my mind. The staff just really seem to care about the quality of their work and want nothing but the best for their clients. Returning for the cavity filling only strengthened my belief and trust in this office. First off, I never knew a laser could be used in cavity filling which is pretty cool, and second, the procedure took all of about 15 minutes total and did not require any numbing whatsoever. I am thrilled that I was able to find a reliable dentist in a convenient location for me on my first try; I'm sure the same can't be said for some people. I would highly recommend this office for any regular dental maintenance and/or dental surgeries if necessary. Update 10/9/2017: Got another cavity filled using the laser just this morning. Appointment was at 8AM, walked right back after the usual friendly greeting and immediately saw Dr. Krosser who began with the cavity repair. I made it to work before 9AM and I work about 20 minutes away from the office. This is just what I've come to expect from this office anymore, and I'm happy to keep coming back!
