We believe every member of your family deserves complete dental care, which we can and will gladly provide.
It’s Never Too Early
Oral health is not something that needs to wait. You can help your child from the moment he or she is born.
Using a clean, moist cloth, you can wipe your son or daughter’s gums a couple times each day. As soon as his or her first tooth appears, you should start brushing it twice daily. Once your child has a tooth, he or she can develop tooth decay.
Get a child-sized toothbrush with soft bristles, and use a rice-sized squeeze toothpaste to gently scrub his or her tooth (and later teeth).
Once your child has two teeth next to one another, you should begin flossing daily. Gently work the floss between those teeth.
Many children will want to start showing you that they can brush and floss on their own between the ages of 3 and 6.
You will want to demonstrate how to brush (two minutes twice a day, scrubbing every tooth on all sides) and how to floss (once per day). By this time, you will want to use a pea-sized squeeze of toothpaste.
You will want to stay in the bathroom with your child while he or she is learning to brush until you feel comfortable that he or she can and will do what needs to be done.
We generally begin dental care for children around their third birthday.
However, many of our youngest patients have been to our office before their first official visit with us.
As parents, we hope you will take care of your teeth as well, and that includes coming to our office for routine visits. You may want to bring your child with you so they can see what our dental staff does while they are cleaning and examining your teeth.
We have found that this helps many children make the adjustment from watching someone else receive dental care to being cared for themselves.
Advanced Family Dentistry
We all know that technology has made incredible leaps forward in our lives.
Once upon a time, cell phones were large and bulky and only the wealthy could afford them. Today, most people carry smartphones in their pockets that have more computing power than the spacecraft that landed the first astronauts on the moon.
Just as technology has made our lives easier, it also has improved family dentistry. At least, it has in our office.
We have incorporated state-of-the-art equipment into our practice to diagnose problems earlier and provide pain-free dental care whenever possible.
One great example of this is our SOPRO intraoral camera. The SOPRO gives us a magnified view of your mouth, and it allows us to see things that we never could with our eyes alone.
We also were one of the first practices to switch to digital X-rays nearly 20 years ago. Digital X-rays expose our patients to lower doses of radiation, and they allow us to the see the X-rays faster than the old system. This also makes it easier to compare X-rays between visits to look for any changes in your teeth alignment.
Keeping You Comfortable
Our staff wants to do everything that we can to reduce or eliminate any anxiety that you may be feeling.
But we also want our patients to be physically comfortable. We offer blankets and pillows so you can feel cozier when you are sitting in one of our dental chairs.
We even provide coffee while you are waiting for your appointment to begin.
If there is something we can do to help you feel more relaxed, please let us know.
