The Difference A Same-Day Crown Can Make

Anyone who’s ever had to get a dental crown will know the biggest drawback: the wait for the permanent crown to arrive from the lab. Between having your tooth reshaped to fit under the crown and its attachment is a long wait wearing a temporary that always feels like it’s on the verge of falling off. Going weeks with that kind of worry isn’t easy!

Modern dental technology has changed the game somewhat, and now you don’t have to wait that long to get a new crown. At Millburn Dental Arts we can have you in a permanent crown in just a single visit, and that same-day crown will look just as good as one that took weeks to build.

Same-Day Crowns: How Are They Possible?

Traditional crowns take a little while to manufacture. First we have to remove any damaged portions of the tooth and turn it into a post that will fit under the crown. Then we take an impression that’s sent to the lab, who builds it by hand over the next few weeks.

Same-day crowns are almost like reinventing the wheel, but with a lot more technology involved. We still have to reshape your tooth, but from there the process changes into a completely computerized one. We take a digital impression of your tooth, which is fed into a modeling program that allows us to perfectly match a crown to your mouth.

From there the digital model is fed to our CEREC milling machine. We’ll choose a color of porcelain that perfectly matches your natural teeth, and in just about an hour you’ll have a perfectly milled crown that’s ready to be attached permanently!

So why is CEREC a good choice? There are a lot of reasons why getting a crown in just one day is great!

Save Your Precious TIme

Not all of us have the luxury of being able to schedule dental appointments just weeks apart – we’re busy! The pace of modern life means that you might not be able to take time off work, miss an important deadline, or find multiple babysitters just to get a crown.

CEREC is an incredibly timesaver. We can get you in and out before you know it, and you’ll be ready to enjoy living pain-free with that beautiful new crown.

No More Temporaries

Temporary crowns simply don’t look that great. Not only that, but they have a tendency to fall off and they’re uncomfortable. It’s not uncommon for us to have patients call between crown appointments with some problem with their temporaries. Put simply, they’re horrible!

We attach your crown in the very same visit we reshape your tooth, so you’ll never have to deal with a temporary again. It’s a good way to start living without having to put things on hold for a temporary tooth.

More Hygienic

Temporary crowns aren’t attached as securely as permanent ones, which can lead to bacteria getting between it and your tooth. Teeth that are reshaped to fit beneath crowns lack enamel, making them far more vulnerable to decay.

While two weeks won’t do much damage to your tooth it can set the stage for problems down the road. We don’t want our patients to face crown complications, which is yet another reason why we love using CEREC to do crowns in a day.

Digitally Modeled For A Perfect Fit

Traditional impressions work, but they simply can’t measure up to the precision of a digital scan. We use our 3D modeling to create the perfect fit for your new crown, and we’re able to control the whole process from start to finish.

Because we model and create the crown in-house we’ll be able to make all the minor adjustments that may be needed. The result is a crown that looks, feels, and performs better than anything else.
