Ongoing Dental Procedures | Milllburn Dental Arts | New Jersey

Technology today is amazing. So much has changed over the past decade, it’s almost dizzying. Yet there are so many things we can enjoy today thanks to new inventions and ideas. These innovations can be found in dentistry as well. While some dental offices might be intimidated by new technology, Dr. Krosser embraces it when it works well. To show you what we mean, here are some of the state-of-the-art dental technologies available at our Millburn, NJ dental office for you.

Advanced Dental Technologies

CEREC dental crowns: It’s hard to find a more impressive and modern piece of technology like the Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics or CEREC system. It’s used to make dental crowns. Normally, a dental office will take measurements to see how to make a crown. Then they send the data to a lab. In a few weeks, you get your crown.

CEREC is a game-changing piece of technology. First, the measurements are made digitally with CAD/CAM technology. You are sure to get a dental crown that fits very well. But at our Millburn, NJ dental office, a CEREC machine makes your crowns while you wait. The machine takes the digital measurements and sculpts a crown out of a block of material. Instead of weeks, you will get a crown that same day.

LANAP non-surgical gum disease treatment: When it comes to fighting gum disease, dental technology used to lag behind. Deep cleaning and gum surgery were the most common methods of controlling the disease. Thankfully, there is a modern method. LANAP is a non-surgical method of removing infected gum tissue with a special laser called PerioLase. It uses a special wavelength that will leave healthy tissue alone. When it covers gum tissue infected by bacteria, it destroys the bacteria present. You can get rid of diseased tissue and leave the healthy parts alone, all without surgery.

SOPRO intraoral camera: For years, dentists have relied on their X-rays and their eyes to see what’s wrong with your teeth. The SOPRO intraoral camera is a digital camera on the end of a small wand. Dr. Krosser can use it to see parts of your teeth and gums not easily seen. Photos can be taken as a record of problems existing, should your insurance company ever suggest a treatment is unnecessary. Images can also be sent to a monitor so we can have a closer look without pushing your mouth too open.

DIAGNOdent laser cavity detection: Even with a great camera like SOPRO, it’s not always easy to spot tooth decay. The earlier you find it, the easier and cheaper it is to treat it. But when it’s very small, it’s almost impossible to find. That’s where the DIAGNOdent laser cavity system is useful. It uses a low-powered laser to painlessly scan your teeth for cavities that cannot otherwise be detected.

WaterLase: For many years, drills were required for dentistry. While your enamel has no nerve endings, the friction and vibration from a drill can trigger nearby nerves and make it painful. Thankfully, we have something different. WaterLase uses a dental laser combined with a powerful but thin spray of water and air. These will do the same work as a drill but without friction and vibration. WaterLase is very effective. Yet most patients do not feel any pain at all.

Invisalign clear plastic aligners: Lots of people had braces when they were teenagers. That means lots of people also had discomfort and even pain from metal brackets and wires. And that’s without including the embarrassment of all that metal in their mouths. Today, there is a better alternative. Invisalign uses a series of clear plastic aligners that fit comfortably over your teeth. They will move your teeth to where they belong like braces do. Since they’re made of clear plastic, they are almost invisible when worn.

Lumineers, e.max, and DURAThin veneers: Dental veneers are great for improving the look of your teeth. They can also add protection to teeth with chips, cracks, or similar damage. However, a dentist needs to remove a layer of enamel from the teeth getting veneers. Otherwise, they won’t sit flush with your teeth and will look out of place. At our Millburn, NJ dental office, you can get several kinds of prepless veneers. Lumineers, e.max, and DURAThin veneers are made from special materials. They can be incredibly strong even while being incredibly thin.

Of course, we still have older systems when they’re working just fine. You can still get the cleaning and exams necessary several times a year as well. But these amazing pieces of dental technology helps our team provide some of the best dental care in New Jersey. To learn more, call us today at (973) 957-1604.
