3 Ways Technology Can Improve Oral Health

Dentistry sometimes gets a bad reputation for being painful or even a little outdated. Some of the techniques we’ve used for years are still relevant, while others have made huge gains just in the last few years.

If you want a state-of-the-art dentist in the Millburn NJ area, Millburn Dental Arts is the place for you. We’re only using the latest technology to treat our patients. Give us a call today at (973) 261-6370 to schedule your first visit. Or use our online form to book an appointment. We have a number of high-tech tools right in our office to help diagnose and treat dental problems. This is a new age of dentistry. We’re even using lasers to treat soft tissue inside the mouth!

Let’s take a look at the technology you’ll find inside Millburn Dental Arts . Keep in mind that most dental offices in the area DO NOT offer these services.

Treating Soft Tissue With Laser Therapy

Gums problems can start small but quickly take over your mouth if left untreated. Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults. Also, too much gums can ruin your smile. We’re using a state-of-the-art laser technique known as LANAP to treat gum tissue and remove the harmful tartar and bacteria that causes gum disease. The laser treatment is a great alternative to traditional gum surgery, which uses scalpels and sutures.

The lasers evaporate the infection from the gums and sets the stage for healthy tooth and gum reattachment. Or, we can use the laser to reshape the gums. We’re finding that the laser treatment is superior to the traditional gum surgery for many reasons. Here are a few:

  • Laser dentistry is pain-free
  • Minimized bleeding and swelling
  • The recovery is quicker
  • Treatment is often completed in one visit
  • Less risk of future infection

Restore Crowns in One Visit

Our teeth can crack, chip, or succumb to large amounts of dental decay. When these things happen, you’ll need a reliable restoration to restore the tooth and give it functional for years to come. The best way to do this is with a dental crown. Most offices need two or three visits to place a permanent dental crown. But at Millburn Dental Arts , we can place a permanent crown in just about 90 minutes! You can take a long lunch break and come back with your mouth restored. We can place same-day crowns because of our digital technology and in-house milling station. We can take a quick impression of the tooth, and fabricate the crown — out of a single chunk of ceramic material — all in one visit.

The same-day crowns have a number of advantages, including:

  • You won’t need to wear a temporary crowns. Some patients have to wear temporary crowns for weeks or even months at some dental offices)
  • No goopy material. We’re also using digital impressions. The digital impression are more tolerable AND reduce the likelihood of human error. A better impression means a better crown.
  • No metal required. Some dental offices use metal-based crowns. Metal crowns are strong, but often the metal shows near the gum line. For that reasons, all-ceramic crowns are the more aesthetic options.

A High-Tech Way to Find Cavities

Part of the reason for your sixth month cleanings and exams is for us to make sure you’re cavity free. We check for cavities with a manual search and with technology like the CariVu cavity detection device. This device is kind of like a “second opinion” for we dentists in that it identifies problem areas hidden from the naked eye.

CariVu allows us to thoroughly check the mouth for cavities and then help you identify the areas you need to focus on while brushing.
